About the Wings

The Midwest Wings was founded in 1974 by Rob Withers.  Rob came from Wales and began our club with his Late Father, Stanley Withers.  The club colors of black and gold come from their own home town team in Wales.  The Midwest Wings from 1971-1989 was mostly a local club competing in youth recreational leagues and featured a high level men's team which had players from all over the world, several of whom had professional backgrounds and mostly a great love for the game.

In 1989 the club, under the direction of Bill Dekker took the youth program to new levels, began to compete at higher levels, and traveled throughout the USA and Europe competing and expanding our own level of play, travel, and knowledge both on and off the field. 
The Midwest Wings has traveled to major tournaments in the UK, France, Italy, and Ireland with excellent young teams ranging from U14-U18 where major success has been achieved.  The Wings have proudly traveled and competed throughout the United States including the Nike San Diego Surf Cup, Pike's Peak in Colorado Springs, the Disney College Showcase and the Disney Tournaments in Orlando, and more.  Several National Indoor Championships have been won and recently an Illinois State Cup Finalist was achieved. 

Most importantly the Midwest Wings takes pride in training on the right things.  We work to develop our players with a high level of skill and unlike almost every club we take pride in our own success of building players from within the program.  Our teams are like families and we have a great social environment which has created friendships amongst families that last forever.

The club hosts the Fall Classic Tournament each October and our Winter Classic each February which both host teams from all over the Midwest and offer great competition.  Our golf outing each fall brings businesses and our community together in a great social setting which not only helps raise funds for club needs but does a wonderful job in creating pride amongst the great families that make up the Midwest Wings Soccer Club.

Our tradition is deep, our pride is untouchable, and over the decades of Wings Soccer many stay in touch and tell us of their great memories and lessons learned in the club.  Today it is our current players time in the club and like those before them our players, staff, and families are creating their history and success which will last a lifetime.
